My First Solo Trip to Disney: 4 Parks, 1 Day

My First Solo Trip to Disney: 4 Parks, 1 Day

Birthday trip to Disney World - May 7, 2025

Turning 36 at the Most Magical Place on Earth: My First Solo Trip to Disney World

On May 7th, 2025, I did something I had never done before—I celebrated my 36th birthday on a solo trip to Walt Disney World. Not just any Disney day, but a whirlwind, magical, exhilarating journey where I conquered all four parks in a single day. As a mom, taking time for myself is rare, and the thought of travelling alone was equal parts thrilling and terrifying. But I did it—and it turned out to be one of the most joyful, soul-refreshing days I’ve ever had.

The Journey Begins

I flew out the day before, on Tuesday, May 6th, with WestJet. The flight was smooth and comfy—those premium seats were totally worth it.

And let me just say: when your feet hit that iconic green carpet at MCO, there's this instant Disney magic that hits you like pixie dust. If you know, you know.

I checked into Hilton Las Palmeras, a beautiful Hilton Grand Vacations Club property. My family are HGVC members, so I was lucky to stay here. While it was a bit further from the parks than I would’ve liked, the resort was spotless, updated, and my 1-bedroom suite came with a full kitchen and a perfect view of the pool. I unpacked quickly and headed out for a taste of Disney magic.

First Stop: Disney Springs

I hopped over to Disney Springs, and of course my first order of business was the famed Gideon’s Bakehouse. The cookies were everything I hoped they’d be—rich, gooey, and truly worth the hype. I grabbed a Joffrey’s cold brew (a Disney must!), and strolled over to The Boathouse, where I snagged a seat at the bar.

With a gorgeous cocktail in hand, garnished with an orchid, I savoured mahi tacos, honey butter buns, and truffle fries—because, let’s be honest, anything truffle is a yes. I soaked in the live music, popped into the World of Disney, and just let the joy wash over me. Disney happiness is contagious—even solo.

Birthday Morning: Let the Park Hopping Begin

I woke up on my birthday to a sweet FaceTime from my husband and son, wishing me luck on my Disney challenge: four parks, one day. After packing my park bag with the essentials, I threw on my MagicBand, Minnie ears, and hit the road.

Park 1: Animal Kingdom

Since Animal Kingdom opens the earliest, I started my day here right at 8:00 AM. The vibe is serene—lush trees, ambient music, the distant roar of Expedition Everest. It’s emotional and grounding. The perfect place to begin.

I grabbed a Joffrey’s coffee, took my photo in front of the Tree of Life, and just breathed. That moment of stillness before the hustle felt sacred.

I had my Lightning Lane Multi Pass all lined up, plus a Lightning Lane Single Pass for Flight of Passage. First ride of the day? Expedition Everest—my first time ever! The coaster, the backward drop, the Yeti—it jolted me awake in the best way.

Then it was time for a bite—specifically the viral Wyaba Stuffed Pancake Sandwich from Thirsty River Bar. A delicious mix of sausage, egg, cheese, and guava paste? I wasn’t sure, but it totally worked.

Next up, Flight of Passage. Using my Lightning Lane Single Pass, I skipped the line and soared through Pandora. I had never done this ride before, and it took my breath away. It’s so immersive, it made me tear up.

To cool off, I grabbed a Night Blossom drink—tart, sweet, and so Instagram-worthy. Then I headed to Kilimanjaro Safari, which turned out to be one of the best safaris I’ve experienced. We saw baby giraffes, elephants, and more. The magic of Disney and nature in one place.

Instead of waiting for the bus to Hollywood Studios, I treated myself to a Minnie Van via Lyft—air-conditioned, polka-dotted, and totally Disney.

Park 2: Hollywood Studios

Time for action, nostalgia, and adrenaline. I started with a reservation at Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge. I stood solo at the bar, sipping a refreshing Akivan Tea mocktail and enjoying the Bantha Flatbread. The whole space is like stepping into a movie set—complete with a droid DJ and out-of-this-world vibes.

Next up, Tower of Terror, which I adore. Still thrilling, still spooky, still one of the best. I posed for a photo on Sunset Blvd, and then it was time for one last ride on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster before it’s rebrand. I’m so glad I got to experience it again—loud, fast, fantastic.

In Toy Story Land, the energy was contagious. I spotted celebrities Woody, Buzz, and Jessie waving and dancing with guests! Even as an adult, it felt magical to see them in real life. I grabbed Totchos and a Lunch Box Tart from Woody’s Lunchbox and found a shady spot to relax.

While I was there, I caught a surprise performance by the Green Army Men—marching, drumming, and hyping up the crowd with playful antics. It was such a fun, unexpected moment that made me smile and reminded me of the whimsical surprises Disney always delivers.

It was getting hot, so I grabbed (yes) another Joffrey’s cold brew coffee before hopping aboard the Skyliner. It was my first time riding it—and it was smooth, relaxing, and gave me a great view as I floated toward EPCOT.

Park 3: EPCOT

I entered through the International Gateway, right into the Flower and Garden Festival. The topiaries were stunning—Mickey, Minnie, butterflies, and so much colour everywhere.

Using my Lightning Lane Single Pass, I headed to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This ride has a reputation for being incredible, and it did not disappoint. My soundtrack was “Conga” by Gloria Estefan. It was so fun, I was grinning the entire time.

Afterward, I strolled through the World Showcase, checking out the different country pavilions and their iconic landmarks—from France’s Eiffel Tower to Japan’s pagoda. I paused to soak in each atmosphere, people-watch, and admire the little details.

I treated myself to a Croque Glacé—a pressed brioche ice cream sandwich with vanilla and raspberry sauce. The cast member even drew a little Mickey in syrup on top. That tiny gesture? Pure Disney magic.

I explored Creations Shop, browsed the merch and maybe grabbed a souvenir or two. Before leaving, I admired the glowing beauty of Spaceship Earth and snapped a few final pictures.

As the sun started to dip, I headed toward the monorail. One last park to go.

Park 4: Magic Kingdom

By 7:30 PM, I scanned into Magic Kingdom, proud and a little teary. My step count was over 25,000, but adrenaline kept me going.

I took my time walking down Main Street USA, soaking in every detail, every smell, every sparkle. I posed for photos in front of Cinderella’s Castle with my “4 Parks, 1 Day” button on full display.

My birthday dinner was at Skipper Canteen in Adventureland, and it was one of the best meals I had all day. My server Julie was so warm and attentive—she even helped me order off the secret menu - the Brazilian cheese bread is a must. I followed it with Nile Nellie’s Noodle Bowl, a tangy, herby, spicy shrimp dish that was chef’s kiss.

As I stepped outside, the fireworks were coming to an end. I stood still and watched, tears quietly rolling down my cheeks. It was emotional. Cathartic. Joyful. A perfect Disney moment.

I ended the night with one final ride, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. The wait was only 35 minutes, and the interactive queue made the time fly. The ride itself? A perfect nightcap.

I wandered through Emporium and Main Street Confectionery, soaking in the last of the park's glow.

Before I left, I wandered toward the start of Main Street, where I took my final photo of the night: sitting on a bench next to the statue of Walt Disney and Minnie Mouse holding hands. The sweetest, most fitting end to a perfect solo celebration.

I climbed into my Uber with sore feet and a full heart, and headed back to my hotel. I was exhausted—but blissfully happy.

Final Thoughts

This trip wasn’t just about Disney. It was about reclaiming joy, celebrating me, and proving to myself that even solo, I can feel full. As a mom, it’s easy to forget the person you were before. This trip reminded me she’s still there—and she’s thriving.

From MagicBands to Minnie Vans, roller coasters to fireworks, this birthday was a dream come true. And yes, I’m already planning my next solo adventure... Disneyland in September, maybe?

Until next time✨
